I liked mine. Very very comfortable, great ride, good seats, well kitted out, gearbox mostly very good (bar the usual lurch/knock), and very quick. Traction in the wet is comical at times though.

I'd rather have the Jag, even if it was 0.001 secs slower round a a track or whatever. But then this is the Jag forum nuts

I think that depended on which reviews you read.

So back to my original question....Is the STR a good compromise between the Range rover and Evo/M3?

I've had an S Type R for a couple of years after having a couple of 4.0 TVR Chim's and a standard Evo 8. The jag seems to have as much grunt as any of them and above legal limits would be quicker (it just seems to keep pulling when the others started to tail off).

I do long for a bit more noise from the V8 (it sounds good from outside but is well sound proofed inside as you would expect from a Jag. Given a choice I would have both a decent commuting car and a Tvr but petrol consumption aside the Jag is great at long distance high speed comfort and plenty of grunt with decent handling when you want a bit of fun. I would definately consider having another one.

Sounds Ideal for me as i drive from nottingham to aberdeen to go to work. Will have to see if anyone fancies a swap. Is there much difference between the earlier and later models

I had one when they were current. Much better than i expected it to be and one of the nicest cars I've owned.

I'm lucky enough to have both a TVR Chimaera 450 and STR. I would say the TVR is slightly quicker at lower speeds but once above the speed limit the STR would leave it easily. It also feels more composed on bumpy roads than the Tiv. It is a comfortable cruiser which can turn into demon when you put the foot down!
