XK and XKR price difference (or not!)

Hi Folks,
I'm looking at an XK or XKR and I don't see a great difference in price
for the same year, milage etc even though, quite obviously, the R has a super charger!
Is there something I'm missing? IE the R is less desirable becouse of XXXX
Also, did they only come with an auto?

The year depends on what car allowance I can sort out as an alternative to the Company Car
Option 1)
Company is ether tight with car allowance or attach too many strings
I'll keep company car and maybe spend about 10K on a 2001 - 2002
Option 2)
Company is flexable with car allowance
I'll swap Company Car for a 2006 model at maybe 25K?
Still doesn't seem to be much difference in price for the same year between XK and XKR though.
If its a third car (After company car and TVR) then insurance shouldn't be too bad as it will be on
a limited milage.

If a 2006MY then I assume it will be a new shape aluminium model. The new XK's have a £5k brochure price difference between the '8 and the 'R, or you can get an XK Convertible for the same sort of price as an XKR coupe.....etc. as there is a £5k difference in price between the coupe and convertible as well.

5K isn't 'that' much between the 8 and the R on a new one really.

I guess the difference gets less as the cars depreciate so that,
if I looked closely, I would probably spot a 1K difference for 2006 models

I have to wonder whether you are comparing like with like. When I was looking late last year for a low mileage 2007 car there was a clear premium of £5-6k for an XKR over an XK8 and another £5-6k premium for the convertible. Those differentials are fairly easy to see if you look at a bunch of low mileage cars together at a Jaguar franchise showroom.
The differentials may reduce for slightly older/higher mileage cars -- but you won't find otherwise identical 2006 cars at a difference of only £1,000. If that appears to be the differential, take another look at the options/extras as it's possible to load up an XK8 to bring it closer to the price of a 'basic' R.

Having just bought an 07 XK convertible I considered an XKR Coupe for roughly the same price but felt I would get better value for money with the Convertible. My reasoning was that having moved up from a Chimaera which I drove with the roof off as often as the weather allowed I would use the power hood far more than I would use the extra power of the XKR in normal SAFE fast road use and, as I'm not intending to do any track days or traffic light Grand Prix, the convertible won.

I can't make up my mind about which way to go. Sometimes I agree and it has to be an XK Convertible, but then the lines of the roof put me off and the haunches of the coupe seduce me once again......unpc said:
When I was looking for one of the older steel bodied cars there was almost no discernable difference in price between the two and the convertibles seemed even cheaper than the coupes. As said above, if they're a similar price then why not get the R? I did and I love it.
That might be true across the pond but here, in California, when I was shopping around for used XK8/XKR, the XKR was consistently a few thousand more than the XK8 for the same year model and the convertible was consistently more than the coupe for a given year for either model.Doug
