I have a noisey front wheel bearing on my 1999 4 litre v8 S type i am trying to replace it but having great difficulty getting it off.

I have removed the road wheel brake caliper and disk along with the four retaining bolts that appear to hold the hub to the suspension turret but cannot extract the bearing/hub have i missed a nut or bolt and should the black plastic cover on the back(abs sensor)come off?? or does it just need brute force??

typing this on phone, so forgive mistakes, you will be lucky if you get the bearing out as view sieze in the vertical link. take it off, take it down o your local jag dealer tomorrow morning, and they night press it out for you. I always used to do this for jag drivers. hth.

Souns very much like the part that my local place tried beating out with hammers and blowtorches - two kinds of metal corrode together apparently. You'll need a whole new strut, about £300 each IIRC.

Sounds like you have undone all the bolts, there are only four, should be able to see on the new one if there is any doubt.

You might be able to get the bearing out of the vertical link if you but the four bolts back in a few tuens each and hit the bolts with a punch and a "BIG" hammer.

I used to us take the virtical link off and use an "A frame" bush tool to push on all four bolts at the same time with a 20 tonne press, never failed, but without the tool and the press a new virtical link (upright if you prefer) mat be required.
