xjs fuel smell

hi folks, a pal of mine has a 91 xjs 4litre, realy nice motor, but he cant use it cos its got a real strong smell of fuel inside the car, he cant find any sign of a leak, has anyone got any idea's,, cheers folk.

Check the foam pads under the fuel tank aren't wet. XJS tanks sometimes corrode out.

Also make sure all the breather vents lines are clear... if they aren't the tank will vent through anywhere it can (usually into the boot) which can cause a strong fuel smell inside the car.
