My iPhone seemed to work well via bluetooth with the system in our '09 XKR (which I assume is the same system). Didn't play around with contacts though.

Music wasn't great, could access folders but was pretty slow and I never worked out how to get it to shuffle, would always start playing the same songs in the same order.

iPhone works fine for me in all respects with phone via Bluetooth, and music via the iPod cable. However, I still use an old iPod for music, because the phone (3GS) claims that the car cable is incompatible and will not charge the phone. I leave the iPod in the car full time, as I have done with previous cars, but this highlights another worry. The manual says that it doesn't turn the iPod off when the car is locked up. This would be a strange design decision and I don't know if it's true or not in practice.

Yes for me. All contacts appear in the car's contact list.

Just realised that's what I was doing - had an old iPod mini as my permanent in car music 'server' (!). Never thought to look to see if it switched up but doesn't the iPod switch itself off after a period of not playing to save battery?

It may do, but if the car is powering it all the time, then it's not running on its own battery, so it may not. I've never bothered to put the iPod in a place where you can see it when the car is locked to test it, just noted what it says in the owners manual for the car.

Have a look on the Jaguar website. There's a section that tells you which phones are compatible - when my phone was due for an upgrade I just printed the listed off, took it to the Vodafone shop and asked them which was the best one!

Hahaha, probably. But then again, I'm not that fussed on phones - so long as I can phone, text and take a pic or two then that's good enough for me. The Sony Ericsson whatever that I've got does the job fine and is fully compatible with my X-Type.

I have a 96 XK4.2. All Bluetooth phone functions worked fine with an old Nokia 6233 but when I got an iphone 3GS it just wouldn't dock at all. I then discovered the Jag connectivity page which told me that was the case but, of course I hadn't checked beforehand. Oh well, I just forwarded calls to my old phone when driving. A bit of a pain but it sort of worked.

Then, joy of joys, when I upgraded the phone software to ios4 the docking works perfectly, including contacts and call history. I've heard all sorts of stories about the new iphone OS not now working with previously OK phone and audio devices (particularly on Mercs) but so far as my XK is concerned the reverse is true!

By the way my car doesn't have an ipod cable and dealers told me they couldn't retrofit one to an XK. In the end I had a Dension Ice FM cable fitted for about £130 which suppresses the radio antenna when connected to the ipod. So far its worked fine with no interference at all. You can't opererate from the touch screen but hey ho.
