Apologies if this might not be the right forum for this question, but I guess this car resembles the type of car on this section.

What would be the general consensus on future values of these? Seem to be able to pick them up for £100k ish. What are the pitfalls? Could this car end up like the F40 which ten years or so ago was close to 100k? Don't get me wrong, I think the F40 is different class and not trying to compare them but just get a view on what people think will happen with these over the next ten years.

Anyone who has an XJ220 has great taste in cars, do it! smile

- I think they've hit their bottom level of depreciation and will slowly rise. When you consider that you can pick one up for not far off the price of 2 fully spec'd R VW Golfs!

They've been heading up slowly in the last 2 years or so. Compared to the F40 they are rarer, they come in RHD (only 67 IIRC), more variety of colours and (I would imagine) have similar running costs. I've been a passenger in one, it's bloody quick, but you can't see anything, it's cramped and it sounds like a bag of spanners chucked into a cement mixer! But I think they look great.

Put it this way - I doubt you'd lose much.

Many of these cars have spent most of their lives doing nothing. I think you'll fond 100k is the starting point. A proper sorted car is about 40k more than that. Speak to Don Law Racing as they are meant to be the absolute gurus on anything to do with these cars! Walk into it with your eyes open and a spare 25k in the bank! That said awesome car and a top choice!

as a Sporting Bear member we are very fortunate that one of our members owns an XJ220 and even more fortunate that they choose to share it on Sporting Bears Dream Rides at various Sporting Bears and Motor events around the Country, in November at the NEC, Gaydon SCS and it will be making a welcome return to Cheshire for th Cholmondeley Pageant of Power and I can confirm even our Ferarri owners want to go out in the Jag!
I say BUY IT, the caris such a headturner by everyone no matte what car they own as it is such a rare and iconic British Supercar.

I agree, I think they will rise in price.

How can it actually be that hard to maintain them, really? What is so unique about them mechanically?

Lots of turbo lag too, and a very hard car to get in and out of!

Ive seen quite a few over the years in different places, the Yellow XJ220S on the M40, a dark blue one abandoned in Kings Cross Metroline bus depot in the pitch black at 3am, a silver one pulling out of Twyford petrol station and numerous at shows. Got videos of the 3 mentioned above and I love them. They just look supercar all the way although i think the mechanicals have always been shot down. Maybe wouldnt spend over £100k on one, even then I'd buy a Diablo SE30 or 6.0, how much are 993 GT2's etc, possibly better cars to invest in but then again, it is very limited and a beautiful and iconic supercar.

What colour would you like, not that you have many options.

I assume and Im possibly wrong that XJ220's are bought for their sheer nostalgia, the breathtaking curves and not at all for the drive, Ive never driven one but its all i hear. They are rarely seen cars, possibly not driven alot but if I had one, I would want to drive it like i do my Diablo, a lot but carefully. Maybe we all assume its costly and difficult to work on when it might not be?

Love that Silver one you have on you tube. Not sure about the green ones although I know the BRG is probably the traditional one to go with. Seem to look better in lighter colours?

If you can stretch to the extra then i'd go with the XJR-15:

I should imagine like most cars of that type, she's been made to be admired and heard rather than driven....

Now that is stunning! First time i've seen one! I would have that in a heart beat if i won the lottery, (parked between the aston V8 zagato and Alfa SZ).
