Test drove one of these yesterday. Brilliant performance and well equiped. I had a couple of niggles but really liked it.
Does anybody here have one? I just wondered about running costs such as servicing and tyres etc. I'm not expecting it to be cheap but I like to go in with my eyes open.

Had my 5.0Ltr XKR Convertible for 3 months now and it really is a very good car.Did 2500 miles on holiday to Provence and averaged about 23mpg.Cannot comment on servicing or running costs but I had a 4.2 XKR(Steel bodied) for three years and I find Jaguar running cost very reasonable compared to other cars,servicing at main dealer costing about £400.
I run a 2008 XKR Coupe (4.2) which has only been serviced by a main dealer - both services to date have been around the £430 mark. A lot of the cost is the oil (around £110 at dealer prices). Considering the performance, I don't think that is too bad.
I've had one new rear tyre and one front (both due to puncture). Main dealer was very expensive compared to a local independant - dealer sourced rear was around £280, independant sourced front was around £190, and quoted around £210 for a rear (these are the 20" rims, btw)
Mpg - general day to day, non motorway - around 18mpg, rising to 26 - 28mpg on a good motorway run

The MPG readout in my coupe is about 10% optimistic so I don't know whether the figures people are mentioning are from that, or from checking the actual fuel quantity against mileage. Mine has averaged just over 19 MPG over the last 10 months from actual fuel used (there's an iPhone app for that
) but will do 27 MPG on a long run, equally it will do 10-12 MPG on a 3 mile journey in traffic. I've never yet managed more than 280 miles on a tank despite Autocar suggesting a real world range of 320 or something. This is with 95 RON fuel though - it would be slightly better with super unleaded I expect. I can't remember how much the service was so it can't have been too bad.

The only drawbacks for me is not a great engine note and boring interior colour options. Why don't Jaguar offer red or green leather as they did with the old mark 2's?
I like the car in white but can't live with black\charcol interior.

Agree a nice Cranberry would be my vote to enhance the black exterior. I don't know why you don't like the noise
Probably because I had just stepped out of a Ferrari California which is much better BUT costs over twice as much so not a fair comparison.you're right - cranberry would be an excellent choice.
After taking a new 5.0 XKR away this weekend to the lakes i can assure you it sounds fantastic. I think (*correct me please) that the exhaust valves open only if you're in sport mode or (sport manual box mode?) or something. Certainly when i engaged the manual box on the paddles and gave it some it really did sound much better. (i was obviously pulling higher revs)
They fly really well. It's just the landings they don't like...... a new front bumper and exhaust required after only 500 miles. Gutted. Good quality air though......
ETA; 17-19mph is all i've seen. But i haven't been able to drive it 'normally' (slowly) yet. just too much fun from the loud pedal.

If you made it 'fly' you really were having fun. I was in the demonstrator and did not want to damage it. The problem was probably that if you I opened the taps I ran out of road before the sound came in properly. Should have held a lower gear?They fly really well. The semi active exhaust opens once enough gass pressure is present, I'd say anything over 3000rpm will result in that. Mind you at 6000rpm it sure is loud..... outside.......

Obviously it's hugely different from the Jag, but I love it for what it is. Would love to get my hands on another XKR though. If only...

I have a Miltech exhaust system fitted to my 5.0L and it sounds superb, has a very nice sound after 3000rpm and sounds superb when decelerating and hitting 6k The only drawbacks for me is not a great engine note and boring interior colour options. Find a good Independant near youIt came back fully valeted so I dont see the benefit of an independent by comparison!!

Can't comment on servicing costs as mine were covered but in the 6 months I had our convertible 5.0 XKR I averaged 19mpg and never bettered 24mpg on a steady motorway run. ours was faultless for the 6k miles we had it for. On the interior front, I didn't think the leather quality was that great, some wear showing on the drivers seat bolster with only 13k miles on the car.Does anybody here have one? Sound wasn't an issue either, you just need to drop a gear or two and get it in the uppper rev range, you'll also get some nice pops and crackles on the overrun when it's warmed up too.
