I am looking at an XF 3.0D for a new car. Was quoted £650 for the "premier Sound System" and wondered what the difference is between the two systems? Is it overpriced or is the basic system adequate?

I forgot to ask while at the showroom - was impressed by the performance and ride.

And why o why is metallic paint ALWAYS extra !!!

I would opt for the premium sound if it was me. Not only will it sound far better, but it will help when it comes to selling it on, it's a very popular option in high end cars.

Yes, premium is a good option, IMHO Jaguars should have it as standard and the B&W should be an option...

I think it depends on the car. My 2001 S-Type had standard sound and it was utter crap, like the two little cardboard speakers you'd find in a 1980's Sierra L. Jaguar always seem to be 10 years behind the times in audio - it had a cassette player 17 years after CDs came out!

After much eBaying I found enough of the parts of the Premium system to make it sound quite decent.

By contrast the standard sound system in the 2006 S-Type is very much better. Not as good as the upgraded 2001 one, but acceptable. So I guess the XF system is better still.

My 2000MY XKR standard system was poor, so i put in MBQuart components front & rear, a small amp & sub in the boot. Now sounds loads better than premium set up and cost me less than 600 notes.

So if you dont do it, you can always upgrade later
