Hi folks, looking for a bit of advice regarding faulty rear parking sensors on my 02 xjr, we'll theyre not working im sure youve already figured out :P iv taken the car to my local mechanic who said they all seem to be functioning properly so the fault must be further up the line somewhere and i would need to have a diagnostic check done by a main dealer to locate the fault. unfortunatly the closest is 2 hrs drive away which ive got no problem with but i would like to know if anyone else has had this problem and is there any easy solution?? any help is much appreciated smile

Right, to confirm that all the sensors are working you need to get a friend to sit in the car in reverse and hold the brake. You get your ear close to each sensor in turn. They should all make an audible clicking sound. If one doesn't, then that's your problem.
If you find one not clicking, then swap two around to check whether its the sensor or the wiring (obviously, if the fault moves when you swap two sensors, then it's trhe sensor at fault, if not its the wiring).
If they're all clicking away identically (faulty ones can sometimes click more slowly or more quietly), then it's the control unit (located in the well under the spare wheel).

Very long shot, but when my mate had trouble with the sensors in his BMW he discovered some of them were the wrong way up, hence looking for aeroplanes etc instead of walls.
