Since growing up in the 60's I have always had an admiring eye for Jags Saloons and Sports Coupe's. What is it that makes someone decide to buy either one. It seems that today a lot of the Saloon variants are equally as quick as their sporting cousins.I have been looking to change my XJS celebration for a 6.0l xjs or an XKR but I have probably dimissed quite a few sports saloons like the XJR and Stype R. It is only going to be a rarely used beast no more than 3k a year so mpg isnt a consideration what should I consider for a £10k budget.

Personally if you are looking at a lite use weekend car then LOOKS come into the decision process and in general the coupe body shape tends to lend itself better to a weekend car.

I love the XJR for its "unknown" looks, a bit of a Q car, if you know what I mean. But for me I wanted a coupe for its sexy looks, even when i'm just opening the garage door to look at it

Somebody will come along in a second and argue the opposite, and I cant say they are wrong. Its just personal choice

If it was me I would find a mint x308 xjr 100.
Maybe not special enough for a weekend car but it would be my , biased choice smile

And it seems that XJRs are half the price of XKRs - worth the extra ?

Yes it is ME
S-Type isn’t a Nice car never was never will be but saying that the R with the 4L and decant Brakes and suspension was better but still a Yank (but I know you like them)
The XJR what a car this car you can’t falt
Go and do the shopping init or Go Fish and get them home very fast
XK well you can get a 100 or a Silverstone these cars are a little bit different from your normal XK and if you could find a nice one go for it
But they come with a health warning you have to be under 50

Someone is offering their XJ100 for £10k on another thread, this is what I'd consider. But if you have a mint XJS I think you'd regret selling her.

I do have a mint XJS but I also have an 85 Cabriolet 5.3 which will be harder to sell so its a pragmatic decision.
SOmeone picked up on the point I was trying to make.
The XKR compared to a comparible XJR is very expensive so would I get a better car for my money buying an XJR its hardly the poor mans Jag is it.

Just looking at some car prices. A nice low mileage XJR 2001 for about £7.5k a nice not necessarily low mileage
XKR will be closer to £11k. Wonder what the original purchase price for these two cars would have been.

Purchase price for both of these models was very similar around the £60k mark infact I think the XJR was slightly more expensive.MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM food for thought.

A 2001 XJR should be cheaper than that - half the price of the XKR wink

Car prices do confuse me. But I think i will at least go and look at some XJR's.My neighbour has a mint xj so I might start with that. Owners thoughts on the XJR would be appreciated.
