Hi.

I have been idly thinking about (ok, ok, lusting after) a SIII XJ. Where are they all? They occasionally pop up on autotrader, but it's a real pain filtering through all the modern dross (joking...) to get to what I want...as it is on here and most other places. The only place I really have any luck with is flea-bay, put in Jaguar XJ and then go to 'classics'. Is there somewhere else I can look?

You could try Cars and Classics or Robert Hughes

Join the Jaguar enthusiasts club. The monthly magazine is a good read & the classified section usually has a dozen or so advertised every month. The few good ones left are in the hands of classic car enthusiasts. I had a 4.2 Soveriegn for a couple of years & loved it. Regret selling now. :-(

Jaguar World has about 10 listed for sale. PH has a few listed. I bought mine from a PH advert. There may be some decent cars on Ebay but when I was searching earlier on in the year there was a lot of badly described junk.

This one looks like a good buy

Thanks. I'll start buying the magazine, was always a good read anyway.

Didn't see the age option in the PH classifieds, thanks!

Unfortunately I've had some bad news about my Stag, it might require one or perhaps two new heads. This will eat up pretty much all the money I had earmarked for a new car so can't do anything until I know.

Now that's a proper Jaguar.

It doesn't look anything like a Passat or a Mondeo. It just says, without any fuss, 'I've made it (and don't need carbon fibre to look cool)'.

Excellent! smile

I've toyed with SIII's, what I really want is a SI but I don't think I'd say no to a really nice SII or SIII. smile As it's condition that rules these cars IMO.

Leather and wood is much more "made it" than carbon fibre effect and a "320D" badge wink (to the poster above wink)

Bit of a thread resurrection!

I did finally manage to find a SI XJ. I ended up paying a bit more then I would have liked (I naively thought £2k would get me into a decent car), but I think I got lucky given it took me about 6 months to find a nice one for a remotely reasonable price.

Depends on what your definition of decent is, I suppose. I'm surprised you couldn't find one for £2k, as there's plenty out there.

I've decided to take the plunge, the 944 is being prepped for sale and the Jaguar search begins - if any of you have one for sale please contact me. smile

Maybe I was being a bit picky but now I'm glad I took the time and spent the money to get a nice one.

Cheers. It is very popular with friends, one of those cars that even non-car people seem to like. I was pleasantly surprised by just how nice it is to drive too, it's very relaxing and the engine is as good as I had been promised. I've owned a V12 and that was no smoother, I reckon the 4.2 has even better punch low down and it sounds like nothing else I've driven. Good luck with finding one, do make sure it's good though, they can be very expensive to put right.

It shows too, you have a very nice car. When you know what you want there's no point in compromising - if you get a bad one it can be heartbreaking.
