X Type 2.0 D questions
Discussion
Hi all,
Im looking at getting 2.0 diesel x type, and was just wondering how expensive they are to run and maintain compared to the equivalent audi/bmw/vw? are parts more expensive or about the same?
from what I can see, for the same kind of money I can get a younger x type with less miles than the normal German diesels.
if you have the choice, would you buy another one or get something else?

Really? what rubbish. The Mondeo is one of the most popular and successful cars ever produced, including that much used platform.Just check out the production run, it speaks for itself.
The X diesel employs a different management system, together with different injectors etc etc. Some parts are interchangeble, some are not. The X is an excellent good high mileage economical product in diesel form.Don`t be influenced by narrow minds ( mine included !).Speak with owners who have used Xs for higher mileages. Some of my custemers have covered 200k plus would have nothing else. Provided you add services in between the factory spec, don`t run on cheap fuel and keep the egr clean, expect normal consumables by a really good product.
I have come now to appreciate 2.2 as being very underated.

Jag X-Type 2.2D owner here. This is a seriously good car, the quality isn't quite Audi level but is better than the BMW/Merc quality plus you get a more prestigous badge for less money as the German trio are, well, just German and horribly overpriced at dealers. The Jag badge has more class to it than Audi and BMW plus Jaguar has a rich heritage.
The Mondeo underpinnings mean you will get a bit of stick from your mates (it's all friendly banter!), who drive Audi A-Golfs or other overpriced German cars. One mate has an Alfa 156, and it's fallen apart. The Mondeo underpinnings are a great place to start, you wouldn't want a Vectra platform would you??
My X-type is perfect on the M1 and great on B-Roads. It has plenty of class, my mates concede it is a lovely motor, it stands out and even the girls in the office think it's gorgeous!
The 2.2D is band G tax £155 a year and the 2.0D is band F £120. I drove both and the 2.0D is noisier, slower, and has a funny clutch. The 2.2D has 6 gears, 155bhp and goes much smoother, this engine will keep you up with the boring German saloon lovers. Go on, buy a 2.2. Drive an A4 and tell me it has more class than a Jaguar, and its not a plain, ordinary car that could be an airport executive travel cab if you sat in the back.

As a former Series 3 & X300 XJR owner I have also run 2 X-types for the past 6 years (2.5v6 & a 2.2d). Both have been great cars & given hardly any trouble. Nothing you can see or touch is shared with the Mondeo. The brakes are though, which means new disks & pads are cheap. I think the X-type offers much better equipment levels than BMW & much better quality than audi or Merc.
Having worked for both jaguar and audi I can tell your the x-type diesels (and for that matter the mondeo its based on) are easily on a par with audi. Reliability is very similar (not 100% but good) and the jag is far more advanced and modern in both engine general enlectrics than the audis of the same age.
Just dont put petrol in it.
