It was an auto only car from Jaguar.
There is no popular conversion ... yet.
A few people have tried to make one but nothing seems to have come of their efforts yet.
I think NormanD was talking about doing this.

That is correct

The major problem is getting the Black box to to work 100% to fool the engine ECU that the Auto & ECU is still there

The machanics are sorted oter than getting parts made, don't want to put my hand to deep in my pocket untill I know the electronis are sorted

Why oh Why did they not do a manual version? Its not exactly a saloon is it.The old XKR was pitted in Coupe territory alongside Aston DB7 , Ferrari 550/575 etc and subsequent models.Surely if everybody else was making manuals, then Jaguar should have seen the benefit.I wont buy one simply for that reason and Im sure there are other who think the same and either dont buy or put up with the auto.!

I have asked the question as I am looking to build a race car but it has to be manual.Did Jag or anyone else race them with a manual and a clutch rather than sequential?

If it is for a race car then things get easier

You can then strip all the old ECU's use an aftermarket engine ECU as you don't have to keep the instuments going and traction control etc you can then use aftermarket rev counter etc for those

I'll send an eMail

Because the majority of the clientelle like automatics far more than manuals, and even if they are inclined to buy a manual they usually buy an automatic. The automatic they fitted to the XKR (Mercedes W5A580) also happened to be the best in the world at the time.

Its work in progress at the moment tho, currently having the excel gearbox rebuild, and getting the jag V8 Stripped... still need to make up custom engine mounts, and get a custom bell housing done for the toyota gearbox to the Jag (ford?) V8...

There was a Jaguar "badged" XKR racer a few years back. They had it down at Goodwood for XK60.

There was a one-off manual built at one point, it was featured on Top Gear. I seem to recall Clarkson liking it rather a lot. A quick Google should find it.

There was a number of posts about it here.
Sorry can't remember the name of the guy who did it, but you should be able to find it if you hunt back through this group far enough. Just a pity the search function has been broken for so long.

There have been plenty of manual AJ26s and beyond running manual tansmissions, the issue for a private user is getting them to work with CAN and the EMS.

I am surprised that more people haven't used a modified S-Type diesel ZF S6-53 case and fitted a close ratio gearset as it has the correct bellhousing pattern.

It's a pretty simple task but nobody's going to design it for free or make it for free, and it needs to work in harmony with the clutch, flywheel & EMS trigger ring. This sort of work is expensive whether it's for a private customer or an OEM.

That would be me

I used a T56 and manual-ed an XKR engine 10+ years ago, my track car is an XK8 running throttle bodies and the same T56 gearbox. Back when I did it first I used a Motec M800 I am now also using an Emerald.

The Jaguar XKRR was a similar set up I did but they used the rear end of an S type with a Vanquish diff.

The other car that pops up is a manual XK8 done by Elite, often appears on Ebay.
I do know of another XKR 4.2 manual which will be finished very soon.

Tony did you get custom bell housings made up for the T56 box on the Jag lump?

im having issues finding any info on what the fitment is on the jag block, i want to get it connected to an uprated W58 toyota gearbox...
Running the 4.0l nat-asp and aiming for about 320bhp, with little tuning as the car only weight 750kgs without the engine (inc gearbox)!
can you help? smile

The bellhousing from the Merc box unbolts and I modified that via an adapter plate. You have to machine the middle out, all quite simple I still have the drawings somewhere.

But will it take the power of the XKR engine

OK for a race car where you can often strip down, but for someone that wants to do 100+K trouble free miles
