Looking at 2005/6 xk8 cab/coupe what to look out for?
Discussion
Looking for a nice sports car and have bumped into the jag xk8 and it looks like it ticks all my boxes. Wondering what to look out for when buying one of them. What puts me off is that my uncle has an old P reg xk8 cab which he bought from new and has cost him a small fortune to run despite covering only 20,000 miles in it's time (maybe it's going wrong due to lack of use?)

I'd love to but then it's in the budget of other cars I'd rather purchase, 911 c4s cab etc
The jag looks excellent value at <30k for a 2006 xk cab
You are right, the interior seems to wear well, and the XK imho looks better than the XKR, because it has colour coded 'gills' and the slicker and less blingy front fog lamp detail. Seems to sound better too.

There are a number out there - check out some dealers websites as well as PH. I say that becasue if the car has been traded back into a Jaguar dealer it tells me the owner was happy with the car. Full service history, and you are laughing.
The XK indeed looks much sleeker.
What should I be looking out for on these cars when buying used? Is there a guide somewhere with a checklist of common faults?

There are a range of books on the previous XK8 but I don't think that anyone has done this for the current bodyshape XK, which is a pity. You could also try on XKEC, they are a helpful bunch and as they are totally focussed on these cars, will know if there is a Buyers Guide ore similar. Stunning really that a 4 year old super car that's hardly run in, is only worth what £15-18K? If you can find someone to buy it. Dark blue with ivory interior/wood dash/20 inch wheels
Had a 2002 XKR that I sold two years ago for £12K and glad to see it go. Lovely car but it scared the life out of me, I'm not too proud to say I couldn't handle it. Tempted too often to give it some wellie and had the rear overtake me on a few roundabouts. Never did learn that the right pedal isn't just a switch
It is on the supercharged models. I always preferred the naturally aspirated 8's. Has tvron actually quoted a price yet? Presumably he doesn't actually mean XK150 as in the '50s model. I can't see that XK going for a figure in the teens.
By the way did he not own a truly beautiful 2005 XKR 4.2-S Convertible, copper black with ivory interior and elmwood dash? Did he sell it?
