'06 S-type R - I'm tempted...

Afternoon all,
Would like to pick your collective brains re an '06 56 S-type R I've been offered/tempted with.
Dem + 1 owner, full JSH, new tyres, drives and feels like new (41k miles). And by eek, does it shift!
I was very impressed with how it felt on the road, totally rock solid/planted yet felt very comfortable. Build quality seemed very good, no squeaks or rattles evident. Much nicer inside than an E60 BM or E class (neither of which do anything for me).
I've not had a Jag before so I've done some digging to see what they're like to run generally. Good news is, it's not any worse than my 540 on the motion potion. Tax is obviously higher and I expect a set of boots will be a lot more (but said car has a fresh set).
Two things I've come across that bother me that I've read about are 'the lurch' and some examples munching rear pads due to dragging brakes. Are either of these ailments likely to affect an '06 ('07 model) example or had these faults been ironed out by that year?
Is there anything else that's 'weak'/expected to need some TLC during ownership?
Can you buy a Jaguar warranty, and if so, how much are they these days?
I've had a dig through some JD Power ratings and the results look great to good (with the odd not so good thing mentioned) which is promising to Jag noob like me.
Would like some real world feedback though if there's some here though.

I have an 06 but the diesel twin turbo version. The general feeling is that by 2006 all the bugs were pretty much ironed out; I'm very happy with mine, now at 79K miles.
Interesting you mentioned dragging rear brakes; on a couple of occasions there's been a smell of burning rubber from the rear nearside, but I can't figure out where it's coming from and most times it doesn't do it.

I've had mine for for about 5 years - it's an 04 that I bought in 2006 with 9k miles on the clock, and it's just touched 111k. I think the 03/04 ones were the first ones with all the faults ironed out, so you should be ok with an 06. I've had no dramas at all...apart from regular servicing I think I've had a couple of rear bushes replaced, the coolant expansion tank replaced twice (they leak!). The only other thing I can remember was a faulty A/C electronic control card that needed to be replaced.
Tracking/tyre wear always seems to be an issue with these cars, and mine always used to pull to the left and wear the insides of the front tyres until I had it aligned on a "hunter" alignment machine a year ago, and now it's as good as it's going to be.
I had mine serviced at the main dealer until about 90k miles and have had the last couple done at my local (non-jag-specialist), and to be honest should probably have used them earlier and saved some money.
I had the Jaguar extended warranty for one year - can't remember how much - between 1 and £2k....but, again in hindsight, probably wouldn't bother
All in all 102k miles with much less hassle than I was expecting (it's my first Jaguar!)

They've actually made it self-repairing.
For the last month or two my parking sensors had been playing up, first giving a continuous tone and then nothing at all. Last week to my surprise the 'Restricted Performance' sign appeared, for no obvious reason, and whilst it drove as usual it wouldn't accelerate very fast above 50 mph - perhaps it disabled the turbos?
Anway, today the performance is no longer restricted and my parking sensors work again

I've had an S-type R for 4 years, bought at 14 months old and 19k and now done 89k. The only problem I have had with it is wiring faults x 2 (both recent) leading to complete loss of computer management system - car undriveable. Apparently this is not an uncommon fault, and occurs usually in the wiring loom under the front bumper (as it did on mine both times).
Other than that, it is a fantastic car, and I don't intedn to sell it for a long time
