Hi Guys, TVR owner here. Just got an X-Type 2.2D Estate to share the annual miles. On turning the ignition on I get the usual array of lights, all go out with time but the yellow engine light is on, when I crank the engine it goes off. Is this normal? I presume if there's a fault the light would be on when the engine is running?

Cheers, Rus

p.s. It's a fantastic car if you're on the fence, I looked at the Audi/BMW/Merc/Volvo options and the Jag for me (6ft 1) is so much comfier to sit in, a little bit rarer than the 10 a penny audi/bmw and British made to match my TVR! You get a lot for your money too.

First thought - what does the handbook say?

X-Type and TVR hey? Sounds like a good combo! (see profile wink )

The engine warning light normally stays on if there is a problem.

It might be worth asking on jaguarforum.co.uk - there are a few Jag technicians on there.

I am having the same problem? with my XJ8. The check engine light always went off after the system check but it now stays on until I start the engine. As it came on and stayed on along with the oil light (red) I checked the oil and found it to be just on the minimum marker of the dipstick, so I topped it up with a litre of semi synth...But to no avail, the light still stays on till I start the engine. I expect the only way to find out what's up is to plug it into a diagnostic reader?

I thought they were supposed to do that.

Its only if the engine light is on, when the engine is running, that you have a problem.

Acoording to the handbook on a XJ8:

"A bulb check cycle is initiated when the ignition is switched ON and lasts for 3 to 4 seconds. If any warning light remains on after this period investigate the cause before driving"
