My 98 XJ8 has done me proud...Only failed on O/S/F tyre. Replacement like hens teeth to find at short notice. Advisorys: Heavy corrosion on n/s/f inner arch/chassis leg, offside rear brake pipe slightly corroded, General corrosion to underside of vehicle and suspension components, Corrosion around chassis rails? and finally all coil springs corroded. So looks like I have a lot of work to do on the underside to tackle the corrosion...Any hints and tips apprieciated.

Ahh.. you see, in the good old days, the leaking oil fromm the engine would have rustproofed anything behind the engine under the car.Damn these pesky modern oil tight engines!

I've never seen an MOT report like that before. Have you been driving in the sea....a lot? I'm sure a wire brush will fix it. These suspension components do develop surface rust but it would take many more years of corrosion for the car to be unsafe. I've seen a write up somewhere about the inner arch chassis leg corrosion. Might have been on Jag-lovers or jaguar World forums and probably xj40 or x300, same idea though. Had pics of the job. Straight6DOHC said:

Thanks Straight6DOHC I'm only the 3rd owner and as far as I can tell captain Nemo was not a previous keeper
I think I have seen the write up you mention and will have to look it up IIRC the bad area was cut out and new metal welded in. But as you say the corrosion can't be that bad or they would have failed it.Gassing Station | Jaguar | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
