Fear of the unknown... MK2 Jag FIA approving?
Discussion
Good morning,
Sorry that this is a question about classics, but I fear those sites where classic car buffs lurk. So, before venturing off to buy a flat cap and a steam powered pc I thought I'd try a complete shot in the dark to the utterly sane fellow ph'ers:
Does anyne know of, or better still have experience of, race preparing a MK2 Jag?
I have inherited the hulk of my grandfathers old 2.4. In its day it was never "the one to have" and now is in such a terrible state of repair that a ground up restoration to "Morse" spec would be a costly and almost pointless task (sentimentality aside).
It is a 1962 steel wheel rusty boheomoth.
Known faults:
All chrome missing or needing re-chroming
Starter motor seized
Clutch seized and burst slave cylinder and master cylinder looks very poorly
New points needed
Battery replacement
Body needs consideranble welding, inner sills, rear spinmg locators,
jacking points, front crows feet and doubtless other gremlins
No idea about the state of the wiring but assume the worst.
Full respray needed.
In short, more than a days work.
I have been looking for a good classic racer for a while and was thinking A35, Alfa GTA or something light and quick (by comparison), all the while completely overlooking the obvious that was right under my nose: Race prep the MK2.
SO, my question is, even with the limited info I have given above, does anyone know of a good shop that would do this for a sensible price, or is it worth ground up road prepping the car and carrying on looking for a different racer.
Any feed back much appreciated. Thanks

I suspect it might be cheaper and faster to find one that has already been done.
RW774 who hangs around on here would be worth talking too. Ken Bell is still around, I drove a race prep'd 3.8 he'd built a couple of years ago. Then there are people like CMC, near Bridge North, Winspeed, near Guildford, CKL near Battle.
You might also get a better response in the classic cars forum. We don't all wear flat caps.
