V12 Spits carbon
Discussion
On start up my V12 always shoots a trail of water squirted out of the exhaust, I always put it down to condensation in the pipes. The water always contains the carbon from the exhaust, this happens all the time on start up, even when warm. Yesterday after a very fast blap back from Southside Hustle, with my friend behind me in his newly painted cobra, he sent me an angry text with a photo of the front of his cobra completely covered in my exhaust carbon..... The whole front end was covered... doh. I would've expected this if I drove moderately slowly, but fitted with a manual gearbox, she always gets the Italian tune up more often then not, mostly on every trip.
Is this something that indicates a problem? Is there something I can do to remove, minimise this?

When a gallon of petrol is burned, almost a gallon of water is produced as a result of the chemical reaction. Usually this comes out as either superheated steam or water vapour, but with a large, complex exhaust it can condense into water before the whole system heats up.
A V12 consumes lots of petrol, ergo produces lots of water. A modern 998cc three-cylinder turbo would probably heat up much quicker and solve the problem...

So I ran the car static for 15/20 minutes yesterday. The pull of the fan through the rad is quite considerable, I blocked off the rad to get the temp up, all steam and shoot had disappeared. Seems as if the out side temp makes a big difference, but also my mods have helped to keep it cool, which will be a bonus in the summer. Maybe I have to resort to putting foil over the grill in the winter...

Excuse my ignorance but isn't that what thermostats are for?Forums | Jaguar | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
