I have a single garage en-bloc sitting empty. The first time I've ever had a garage, and I'd like to put something fun in it!

Length isn't bad at just over 17' 6". The width could be better. It's got a 7' door (standard for many UK garages I guess). If I replaced the up and over with an electric roller (I plan to in the future), then I'd get a few inches extra.

I was thinking of an XJ-S (179cm excluding mirrors) or X100 XK8 (183cm excluding mirrors). So both essentially 6' wide. Does anyone have a similarly sized home for either of these cars and cope with it?

Failing that, any suggestions of something totally different which is a bit narrower and similarly fun?!

Thanks!

Can’t help regarding your Jaguars size but I decided to build a garage for my Maserati and limited room to build it due to a porch one side and boundary the other.
My garage is 4.8 meters long by 2.4 meters wide.
I bought my electric roller garage door off Gumtree for £75.
My car is 4.3 long and 1.82 wide.
Having a piece of roofing baton at the front positioned where the front wheels need to stop so you don’t hit the back of the garage is essential.
I’m lucky I can push mine in and out of the garage as it’s level, although I sometimes drive in very slowly.

Getting a 6' wide car through a 7' gap is easy. Where you might come unstuck is opening the door to get out... longer doors need more space.

TVR Griffiths are small and fun...

Get a convertible. Put the roof down before entering the garage. Climb out and use the autoclose feature to close the roof etc. To remove from garage reverse the process. Keep the car on a ctec or similar to avoid issues of a drained battery.

I’ve got a XK150 XKR in my single garage, which was built in the 1970s so sized for cars of that era. Tight but doable.

Long doors mean I have to be careful getting in and out of the car. The biggest constriction is probably the length as have only 20cm to spare. So often back in most the way then put in neutral to roll the final bit under tight control!

A batten of wood stuck to the floor will help you stop in exactly the right position fore/aft. I used a ping-pong ball on a string from a rafter.

Carpet offcut on the wall so you don't bash the door.
