It’ll depend on if you have in control or in control touch pro.
For in control touch pro the albeit it an f-pace, I had my old 2017 2.0D upgraded to latest software version a few years ago and Over The Air (OTA) enabled in topix.
The update all went smooth on mine, but it does need to be plugged in and does need tech attention to do it. Yes it’s true early days lots of ICTP units were bricked when doing the plugged in updates. So there can be a risk.
Once done the software ran far smoother and faster than it did before. I recall in original software having more frequent freezes and black screens, although it was not all the time and turning off locking and then restarting always fixed them.
You actually only need software version 19b (2nd half MY20) to enable OTA and CarPlay/Android auto, after that you can update it yourself over the air on a good WiFi signal or via the in car sim connection if you have it.
My dealer upgraded straight to latest version I think, most stable version. There is often a cost, but mine was comped as I had proof of reporting software issues in warranty period so it should actually already have been updated by a diff dealer.
