Audi S8 or Audi A8 4.2 V8?
Discussion
I'd like either of these cars (D3 platform) - primarily for the sound. I understand an S8 is an expensive endeavor when it comes to servicing.
The decent ones are £12k plus, while I've spotted a couple of 4.2s at around £9k. I did find an S8 for £8.5k, but the Trade Seller doesn't mention in the advert that the car was previously involved in a smash!
Can I get a nice sounding 4.2L with a little investment, or should I go for the far more expensive option and get an S8?
Probably a silly question - but wondered if anyone has first experience of both.
Cheers

I had the V10 S8 for two years, it was an amazing car, featured in piston heads 3 times, took me everywhere in style, very quickly and under the radar. But there are things to know... some work is an engine out job (thankfully never happened to me), it will need a carbon clean to make power as mine was 100bhp down due to clogging. Your best bet is start a dialogue on the A8 forum, loads of knowledge there.
By comparison, I haven’t had the A8 4.2, but I’ve had two 4.2 S4s, really nothing compares to the V10, it’s flexible and brawny in a way that the 4.2 isn’t. The economy difference between them is minimal.
Incidentally on sound, on both of mine I replaced the exhausts, both with non-res milltek systems, the V10 was just epic, I’ll see if I can find and post videos.
Final point, interior differences on the S8 and A8 involve Carbon Fibre, Alcantara headlining, extended leather, upgraded wheel, fingerprint start and if you find one B&O sound - which is still the best system I’ve ever heard in a car. Then there’s a better grille, brakes and wheels, potentially soft close doors on some as well (but these can be problematic, I had two motors replaced)

Thanks for the reply. I'm pretty much sold on the S8. I've forked out on pre-purchase inspections for 3. Each one of them had crash damage repairs!By comparison, I haven’t had the A8 4.2, but I’ve had two 4.2 S4s, really nothing compares to the V10, it’s flexible and brawny in a way that the 4.2 isn’t. I would like to see the milltek videos if you have them! The ones I've found on YouTube.. I don't think they are good representations. I would hate to fork out money on the system and not be happy with it.

I compromised on the colour I wanted (black) for the right car (silver) and was glad I did. I got an AA inspection before I bought and flew up to Edinburgh from Heathrow after it checked out to buy. The drive home that night was epic

I’ll have a proper look tomorrow, I did two videos, one on stock exhaust, the other with the milltek non res after fitting. It’s night and day.

Excellent news - post some pics when you get it. In the meantime, here's some videos for you:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_jle3LQe5s&li...
