MK2 Golf wheel ideas?
Discussion
Are you wanting to keep with 15s or something slightly bigger/wider?
If your car is pretty much OEM standard then something old school like Borbet A, Borbet C, Azev A, Ronal Turbos or RH Cups if you want to get away from the BBS vibe. But there's a reason that BBS splits are so popular; they're a timeless classic.
I've got a few different sets for mine, non of them ultra modern or cutting edge but all work well......BBS RS, Ronal LS, Sebrings, RH ZW1.

I was looking to keep the 15, but upgrade to a 7J to allow for more tyre options. I find that a 16 is too much wheel when you look at them. I like the compomotive stuff, not sure if anyone has any experience with it. And in general "turbofan" type stuff if there's any more that you guys know about? If your car is pretty much OEM standard then something old school like Borbet A, Borbet C, Azev A, Ronal Turbos or RH Cups if you want to get away from the BBS vibe. There was a set of 7J RA's for sale not so long ago and I'm annoyed I didn't get then

TSW Venoms?
Been there, done that, one mk2 Golf GTI 16v with 16" TSW Venoms sprayed in VW Mars redat the same time I also had this GTI with 16" TSW Hockenheims
Then BMW E30 BBS RZ - half an inch wider an 10mm lower offset than VW BBS RZ that come on Golf/Corrado G60s
VW Sebrings - from Corrado G60s
BBS RMs 15x7/7.5j staggered, which were perfect

I am a fan of the subrings as they have the rally style and generally look fantastic. However in my head a 7 inch sounds like a better option. How did the 6's compare with the 7's or staggered set you ran in terms of tyre availability and grip?Dylan04 said:

How did the 6's compare with the 7's or staggered set you ran in terms of tyre availability and grip? From extensive messing about with Golfs I have run many wheels ranging from 15x6 with a 195/50/15 and a 15x7 with a 195/50/15 , the BBS RM were 15x7.5 with a 195/45/15 because I'd lowered that car a bit too much for 50profile tyres and didn't want to cut/fold any of the arches. The 16" wheels on the Oak green had 195/45/16 tyres on,. The blue one with Hockenhiems has 205/45/16 tyres
In terms of feel, these the car does drive a little differently (in a good way) if you have gone from 13*5.5 with a 175/60/13 tyre to a 15" with a 195/50
The only time I found that the Golf suffers is when you go beyond a 8" wide wheel. I've tried 16x7.5 front and 16x9 rears and it was absolutely awful, understeer mess and I'd never recommend it.
The sweet spot for looks an driving is a 15*7 front and 15x7.5 rear with 195/50/15 tyres all round,. The 195/50 is also dam cheap and very very common.
Also MDMA, yes the BBS Mahle is a very good shout.
I also have tried all of these on mk2s..

What about a turbofan? I haven't really seen that done apart from a couple cars on the interweb. I quite like the look and think it would fit well on a big bumper car. Just need to a find a good 15x7 wheel that is deep enough to accommodate one without having to modify the car, or I could get big sticky outy ones then G60 arches to fit them in.
What would be the biggest offset I could go without having to modify the car on a 15x7?

I quite like these but don’t like them with the stretched tyre look.Bit pricey granted.

They look quite nice, Just a bit big for me
Lovely design, but I agree on size. A MK2 to my eye sits perfectly on a 15x7; 16s, 17s, or overly wide wheels look cartoonish and make them ride/handle horribly. The wider RAs are stupidly rare, I used to run a BMW fit wheel (very similar to BBS RA) I never remember the name of. MIM maybe?
Compomotive make a number of wheels that looks really good on a more 'track' MK2.
