‘07 Passat Remote Locking failure

Hi all
The key fob has stopped locking and unlocking my car so my only way now is with the emergency key which is a complete pain.
I’ve changed the battery without any luck. So either the fob is knackered or the sensor for it on the car. Is there any way of knowing which before I waste money on a new fob?

And assuming it is the fob, any recommendations on a cheap but reliable replacement - I’m assuming they’re pricey direct from VW?

Hi had the same problem with 2007 Passat key, try reprogramming key, got instructions off YouTube. Using emergency key etc, Works perfectly now. Good luck !
