Hi all -

I hope everyone is staying safe and well. My RS6 (2016) is going in for service next week. I have asked to supply my own oil, which the dealer has agreed to but I'm not sure which one to get. The Audi part number is-

Original Volkswagen Motoröl 1L "Special G" 5W40 GS55502M2EUR

Is there an alternative suggestion,

Thanks in advance!

I'm surprised the garage even agreed to this. Would you go to a restaurant and ask the chef to cook the food you've brought with you? The garage is entitled to make a living.

It just seems odd to me that you'd ask to supply your own oil, but you don't know what oil to give them. We'll agree to disagree.

If you read my comment Tom, I was asking for alternatives.

If you would rather be charged £180 from a dealer versus £60 in supplying yourself then be my guest, but please think twice before making comments on other peoples posts that just aren't helpful.

Have a look on OPIE oils, they seem to be the best price online, if you have or can get hold of a Halfords trade card it work out even cheaper from them.
I used Castrol Edge 5w40 and have supplied to Audi before during the service and have a 4Ltr in the garage for top ups.

Thanks for the reply.

The OPIE site recommends 5W/30 (if I put my plate number in) but I'm steering towards 5W/40, to be fair I'm not really sure of the difference!

When I pick up top-up oil from the dealer for mine it’s always 0w/30

Thanks Mr Gearchange! Well, sort of thanks - just confused me further! :-)

Yeah sorry - I know that’s not much help.

I’m not sure why the recommended oil is different to the top-up the dealer supply me when I go in.

I change the oil every 10k as a 20k interval seems ridiculous for a twin turbo v8 - and get an Indy to do it and I argued that he should be using 0/30 - he told me that the recommended was 5/40.

Way more helpful than other replies! ;-) Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I’ve opted for Castrol Edge Titanium 5W/40.

I would guess the dealer uses the quantum longline 3 5w 30 which goes in a lot of stuff there.

That’s what I use for my S6 with the same engine. Costco has 4 litre of Castrol Edge 5w30 504/507 spec oil for £16 all in at the moment so I’ve bought a few of those for future oil changes too.

Crafty of them to sell in 4 litres so you have to buy 2 for most cars.
Good oil though.

Annoyingly 8.7 litres for a RS6!
