Just got myself an S3 with 22,000 miles. To my horror it’s got Hancook tyres fitted to it.

Thinking some tight git has put them on, I’m told that they are fitted as standard as new?
Can anyone confirm this as my first though when I collect it is to get a set of michelin p4’s on it.

It must have been driven at a very sedate pace to get 22,000 miles out of its tyres, the wife’s S3 needed a new pair every 10,000 miles.

Not saying they are the original tyres on the car, but I’ve been told the can come from factory with them on.

Yes Hankook are OE fitting on many VW and Audi’s. my 67 S3 had Pirelli P zeros but these weren’t much good.

In my experience (BMW/AMG/Porsche) Michelin can’t be beaten (Goodyear close 2nd)

I’ve always seen them as a budget tyre.

Yeah, this is true. They’re not what I’d choose, but the original owner has likely just replaced like for like, and if that was via Audi they won’t have exactly been cheap.

Seem a very decent tyre on the S4 with many sticking with them when due a change.

Easiest way to check is to look at the date stamp on the tyres (it will be in the format Week-year eg 5019) if it’s roughly the time the car was made then the tyres or likely original, if later then not.

I quite like them, particularly so in the wet.

I'd agree with earlier comments on replacements as the cost savings on Hankooks is non-existent these days. My preference the Goodyear over Michelin on wet-weather performance, cost, and lifespan.

I too was impressed with the Hankooks I had on a Fwd Saab a few years ago, very good in the wet.

My TTS came with them from new and covered 33K before they needed changing.

I’ve got Eagle F1 AS5’s on now and the car feels better, not sure they’ll last as long as the hankooks though
