Just got this car for daughter today so it is covered by the garage 60 day warranty but wondered if there were any (un)usual suspects for this engine or if it is likely to be sensor or the like. Car is a 15 plate 2.0tdi on 45k miles with a fsh, so perhaps has been used stop start a lot by its one previous owner. Still drives bang on, she was going to drive to Edinburgh tomorrow but instead is going in friends car, bit of a downer for her to be honest!!

The usual suspects of dpf or egr probably.
Impossible to say without the codes.

Most problems occur from short journeys to be honest, if its the common rail engine they are generally pretty good.
We have one I've looked after in the family run from 30 k to 90 k and its been trouble free touch wood.

You need to get the fault code read, otherwise it's just guess work.

My most recent encounter with the eml light turned out to be a glow plug. Thread > here

Codes read by my mate, a VW specialist, it's an exhaust sensor needed, so my daughter can tell the dealer this and we will not accept a simple reset as, I suspect, they will try to fob her off with.

I'd maybe keep quiet about a 3rd party reading the codes and diagnosing the problem.

You need to give the dealer the chance to resolve it. You go in telling them how to fix it and they might get all defensive and unhelpful.

Many people have code readers now, could have done it myself? But yeah, point taken.

Dealer is sending car to VW garage to have sensor replaced next Wednesday, pleased with that, thought they might have fobbed us off with a reset and hope job!!
