Hello,

Looking for recommendations on scanners/fault diagnosis.

I am looking for a scanner which can operate on two cars S-Max 2009 2.0TDCI and VW Passat 2.0TDI Blueline.

I am a home DIY person, with frequent problems with both cars.

I am looking for the ability in the diagnostic equipment to be able to:-

Reset engine oil light
Interogate fault codes
Code injectors
Turn on Electronic Parking brake
Activate DPF into re-gen
Activate EGR valves
Actuate turbocharger solenoids

I've seen VCDS (but would not work on the Ford) and Autel MP808 or Launch Pro Mini........what is the opinion of the forum please?

Ive looked on youtube and VCDS comes out well, but like I say......it wont handle the Ford S-MAx........would ideally like something which would deal with both.

Thanks,

Chris

This is a bit of a minefield, I see too many counterfeit tools advertised I would only buy from a trusted supplier.
I see the Autel stuff plastered all over Amazon but I’m sure it’s not legit.
These guys are good, may be worth a call to discuss your needs.
Coding adds another level of complexity to choosing a tool.

VCDS for the Passat. Buy a 2nd hand Hex+CAN if you're not bothered about newer (2018+) vehicles.

ForScan for the Smax. You'll need an ELM327 dongle to go with this. £5 eBay special should work or if you're willing to spend more then anything by OBDLink.

To get "manufacturer level" diagnostics for multiple brands you either need to spend a lot of money or buy a pirate clone.
