Managed to back my 2017 S8 Plus into a stationary truck at work on Friday and ding the boot lid....

I've seen one on eBay but it's just for the regular S8...

Anyone know if this will be the same, apart from the spoiler? I know there were a few extra tweaks to this but not sure....

Yes, it looks like the lid itself is the same part. Part numbers appear to be 4H0827023B for pre-2014, and 4H0827023L for post-2014.

The fitment chart below shows that 4H0827023L is the same part for all facelift D4 A8 models including the S8 and S8 Plus:

What are your thoughts on your S8? I'm considering one soon myself to replace my D4 4.2L TDI smile

You star, thanks a lot Matthew!

So I also had the 4.2 V8 diesel for about 6 years - got it on about 40k and traded it in at about 128k. Travelled all over Europe and so on, as well as a daily drive. Absolutely loved the damn thing.

Toyed with the idea of the S8 for a while. Took the plunge in January 2019 and it still blows my mind today. If you've already got the A8 and love the cabin, handling etc this is the same but on steroids! The power makes it feel small and nimble, even though I'm cruising round in a big luxurious boat. I love the understated, quiet drive - until you floor it!!

About a month ago I had it remapped too - so it's either 680bhp or 720bhp. I booked it in for the second stage, but they only billed me for the first - so not sure what they did. Definitely recommend the remap (it was Elite Remaps in Leeds by the way, although they have a nationwide network of dealers).

Basically I fookin' love it. Averaged about 18.5mpg over the 14k miles I've done so far, but I have a heavy foot. The take-off and growl is addictive!

TL;DR: Buy one.

That picture made me groan in pain for you!!! Glad you got it sorted for a reasonable sum of money.

I’ve previously had a D4 A8. It had the 3.0 supercharged petrol engine which I had remapped to circa 450bhp. Got rid and was after an S8 for a while. Couldn’t find anything suitable so settled on an S6 instead. I’ve recently got that remapped to 550bhp and it flies!!!!

Thanks for the info - this sounds exactly what I'm looking for! I've seen a couple of old posts on other forums where people regretted swapping their 4.2 TDI for an S8 which made me apprehensive. Anything around the 20mpg mark upwards is acceptable to me, my old D3 4.2L petrol averaged 12mpg over the 3 years I owned it due to the timing being slightly out - I never did get around to sorting that out despite buying the specialist locking tools!

My D4 4.2 TDI is 10 years old now and the interior could still pass for a brand new car. The S8 seems to be the natural next step - it's pretty much a discreet and comfortable alternative to the RS6. I'll keep looking out for a decent S8 - they don't seem to come up for sale very often in the North West so I haven't been able to try one yet.

KungFuPanda - I emailed you last month regarding your S8 search because I noticed you were local - glad to hear you managed to find a suitable car in the end! smile

Alex G - You have already convinced me on the upgrade! smile

The "discreet and comfortable" side is what I love... so unassuming. If you find yourself over the right side of the Pennines I'll happily give you a demo 😏

I got mine from Southend Audi so was a bit of a trek - but any excuse for a night on the p*ss in London.

Some poor sod lost over £50k in the first year, but they're going for exactly the same money today as I paid 14 months ago which is immensely satisfying to say the least.

I may have to take up that kind offer at some point! smile

Yeah, I've been monitoring the price of these and they haven't dropped at all over the last year as you've noticed - not so good for me though wink

Hope the boot-lid fitting goes well if you're doing it yourself. It should be fairly straight-forward but I have some workshop manual PDFs which may be useful if you get stuck with anything.
