I've been considering a city car to run alongside my 2018 S3 and 2013 VW Transporter, the latter of which is going to be affected by a local ULEZ / Clean Air Zone soon - and my wife doesn't drive it anyway. This is to meet the need for local journeys by my wife while the S3 is used by me for long-distance care visits to my parents, plus burgeoning kids' activities.

I'd like to stay in the VAG stable because of a good local indie and DIY familiarity. I've been distracted recently by the offer of a bargain family Mk7 Golf GT 2.0 TDI, but that's pre-Euro 6 and probably a no-go as a result. Otherwise, I've explored the Up / Citigo.

I'm also attracted to the 2014- Fabia. Does anyone have experience of these? They seem better-priced than the Polo and I'm quite drawn to the bum-basic spec with wheel trims and plastic wing mirrors as no-worries urban option.

I really like these and have recommended them to friends, family members more than once.

My brother in law has had a 2015 from brand new and it's behaved impeccably.

Have Mirrorlink (I think that's what Skoda call it) for Carplay etc. and they feel right up to date.

Who me ?

The MK1 Fabia had a history of door card leaks. I haven't seen any evidence of whether this has been sorted on later marques. Personally if Skoda made another1.4TDI I'd be interested as I'm running an old 2004 model with 120k on it, and it just keeps going. I can't remember when Skoda removed the diesel option but service history is key as the older lumps needed regular (expensive ) cam belt changes and dedication to the lubricant changes .
