Hi,

Is there any VW techs or does anyone know the official service schedule.

Online I am seeing 40/80k and even some saying sealed for life with no servicing.

Thanks

For the equivalent age Audi S3, the recommended interval is 38k miles - down from an earlier recommendation of c.80k on the 6-speed.

https://tps.trade/blog/dsg-servicing and more often doesn't hurt at all.

As for "sealed for life", take that with a whole mine of salt.

I have seen online and it’s the other way round for a 7 it’s 80 and the 6 is 40.

Thank you. I have see the TPS site and wasn’t sure what box is the R 7 speed, it’s the 381 isn’t it?

There'll be a 3-digit gearbox code on the boot sticker, under the carpet.

Just had the oil changed in mine at 28k (3 year service). Better safe than sorry.

Every 40k.

The sealed units are the dry 7 speed on the lower torque engines.

The new 7 speed in the high performance cars isn't the same gearbox, its a new wet 7 speed, still 40k.

That one that says 80k on the list is an adapted one from the DQ500 for China.

Thanks for the info, I shall wait to see what the supplying dealer stays tomorrow as they are telling me it never needs doing.

Just reading some more, the 7.5 here did get the 380, they put it in after the 7.

But as for it being a sealed unit, I would do some digging.

The reason the other is sealed is because its a dry clutch, all the other boxes are wet and need services.

Facelift, 7 speed Golf R and S3 have 80k box oil intervals.

This is directly from Erwin (i.e. manufacturer data, not a third party).

What is the difference with the gearbox that it can go double the mileage without a service?

Not data that VAG publish; you are simply referred to the maintenance table (screenshot above).

Just wait until you get into the differing service intervals by region...

Something like that rofl

Back in the day you could download a "self study guide" about a given engine, gearbox etc. which was 10 or so pages covering the development, design, key features etc. but such a thing is no longer offered.

What differences is there for them to drastically change the intervals?

Well it’s a different gearbox made with more modern methods and materials/oil etc. The old 6 speed is basically the same gearbox fitted to mk1 TTs and Mk5 golfs.
