Climatronic AC issues, any ideas?
Discussion
Hi all
04 MK5 Golf GT that is the daily hack, around 110k, and I have an issue with the AC.
When the AC is comes on to cool the car down, I will get full on cold air, through all the vents for a couple of minutes, then it is as if the “door” directing the air shuts.
The blower is still going full blast, but the sound is muted and nothing comes out of the vents. If so switch it off there is a quick blast of cold air as just before it shuts off.
I have tried the actuator motor reset, which cures it for about 5 minutes but then it goes back to lots of noise, but no air.
Any ideas?
I don’t have any VW software to see if a sensor has failed or there is a code.
Any advice aside from take it to a dealer is welcome, just because the dealer very may we’ll charge more than what it’s worth to diagnose.
Cheers

Most Indys have diagnostic kit nowadays, will at least tell you what's wrong. I think VW dealers' diagnostic fee is about £120.04 MK5 Golf GT that is the daily hack, around 110k, and I have an issue with the AC.

Cheers. I figured I may just have to pony up for a scan and see if the motors or sensors are throwing codes.
It seems as if a few people have had the issue, but I can’t find anyone who successfully fixed it.
The motors definitely work as when you run the reset process they cycle successfully, it’s just as if the one that directs the main blower flow closes after a few minutes.
This leads me to think it is a faulty sensor or motor.
MD want £145+ VAT to scan, local Indy near me £80. Booked in tomorrow.
