Audi Q7 Battery terminal passenger footwell?
Discussion
Good afternoon. I have a question about the Audi Q7 (2012 model). Having read through many threads I have not found the answer. Why is there a single battery terminal in the passenger footwell? I cannot find any reference to this in either the manual or web research. There is already a terminal in the engine bay for jump starting. Over recent months and about 5 times now the car has not accepted commands from either key fob (batteries are good) so the car remains locked and immobilised. Using the key to enter the drivers door, the alarm activates. I have discovered that if I disconnect the footwell terminal for say 5 minutes (with sparks flying on cable removal so can't be healthy to do) the system seems to reset and accepts the fob commands and happy days the car starts and everything is back to normal. I suppose this is actually 2 questions. Firstly what is the purpose of this terminal and am I doing harm by removing the connection? Secondly why am I having this intermittent fault and what advice can you give me to remedy the problem? Any help or guidance greatly appreciated
Thank you Dr G. The battery was renewed at Audi Dealership 18 months ago. The problem only started about 6 months ago. I know about the engine bay jump start terminal but still don't understand the need for a further live terminal in the passenger foot well, especially if the battery is actually located under the seat. Perhaps the problem is the key fob(s) and I am going to plug into a friends machine to see if any faults come up & if the key fob needs a reboot.
Has anyone else had these problems?
