I have a 2020 2.0tdi R-Line and its a great car except for the fairly well known Sachs rear shocker knock

Took it to VW and they said they could not hear anything, must use deaf mechanics smile

After further trading thro forums etc it seems its a common problem and those who have got VW to replace the shocks report the problem is still there, prob due to the fact the replacement shocks are still Sachs.

So I then discovered that a few have bitten the bullet and replaced the Sacks shocks with Bilstein B4s and report the problem solved.

So was wondering if anyone here has done the same and can confirm it does resolve the problem and that the B4 shocks are a direct OEM replacement?

I've seen Sachs dampers fail after a few weeks in other cars so I'm quite surprised as normally they are good quality.
Last one was on my dad's old c class merc, failed after a month and started knocking.

I *think* it’s the top mounts. I have it on my GTi, at low speeds on uneven surfaces you get a quiet but noticeable knock knock knock

VW did my offside one and now the near side has developed the same issue. I haven’t changed shocks

What does the knock sound like? I have a noise i the back of my GTI. I thought it was a bit of plastic tapping against something else as if something was loose in the back as I was driving around but after reading this thread I'm wondering if it may be suspension knock.

The best way to tell Is remove the wheel and hit to body of the shock with your hand, it should become obviouse if you hear a knock
