Pano Sunroof Service - NW

I'm curious what's to service, big sliding curtain?
As Dr G notes, clean and grease all seals with some special (expensive) grease, check drain tubes run free, and strip out old grease from the runners and pump new grease in (the same expensive grease used on the seals). It's the greasing of the runners that's the main thing, and they look a bugger to clean out.

Always sounds odd that you need a 'sunroof service' - and that it likely costs a few hundred £.
My S4 has the pano sunroof, is 12 years old and all works perfectly (jinxed it now) but, it lives in a garage so I suppose that makes a huge difference from one that sits in the rain all the time?

Few hundred? No! The grease is on the expensive side but you don't need very much and I think officially it's .5 hours labour. My S4 has the pano sunroof, is 12 years old and all works perfectly (jinxed it now) but, it lives in a garage so I suppose that makes a huge difference from one that sits in the rain all the time?
Service interval is 2 years across the board, but I often say to people that you can take it with a pinch of salt. A clean, garaged car will be fine for a long time, whereas one left dirty and dumped on the street under a tree will not.
We're on 6yrs not yet serviced (I've Gummi'd the seals myself a couple of times mind). Car sits outside all year almost under a tree!
Tbh the roof barely ever gets put all the way back - the roads are too potholed to risk it near us. But it has got very creaky this year, so if it helps even a little we'll sort it. tempted to get the bits myself now though.

Dr G, would the service requirement be the same for a 2020 Q3? How do you access the drains at the rear, under the fixed glass panel?
Thanks.
...and now we know:Thanks.
VAS6620A is a drain-snake type tool it seems:
That's one of those questions that won't come up again for another 5 years then out of the blue someone will ask and I'll impress them with an immediate answer

I'm increasingly tempted to have a go myself.
For drain cleaning I'm thinking I'll get some strimmer wire (probably already have some somewhere). Read on one forum that some doubled the strimmer wire up and taped it together, so it was sturdy enough, but not so sturdy as to potentially knock any of the internal pipework off its connections.

Great work Dr G!That's one of those questions that won't come up again for another 5 years then out of the blue someone will ask and I'll impress them with an immediate answer

I had actually already removed the rear wheel arch liner but saw no sunroof drains. I'd very much appreciate it, as might other 2020 Q3 owners, if you could delve into your information source to find
an illustration or description of where under the liner the drain is to be found. Thank you!

I'll leave mine until it needs it and then have a go myself but, as above at 12 years old it's still good and I rarely open it anyway so probably wouldn't find out for some time.
