What to swap my Golf R estate for
Discussion
Hi all
New to writing posts here but been on PH for years, hoping some of you can help my 1st world dilemma!
Presently have a Golf R mk7 estate with a rare very high spec (Oryx white, carbon nappa leather, Prets, pano roof, DCC, ACC, keyless entry/start, winter pack, Dynaudio, AA/CarPlay etc...). Has 64k. Nothing wrong with it, is comfy, modern, fast/chuckable when needed and can equally potter to shops, fit our dogs, bikes etc. Also own a R129 500SL for occasions, top down motoring etc.
Before I can't for whatever reason I want to try out some other stuff, meaning the Golf goes. Still needs to be practical, but quick, some tech etc. Budget is around 23k & be nice to have bit of that for maintenance if possible.
Have looked online but not in person:
B8.5 RS4
B9 S4 Avant
E63 AMG estate (not C63 as don't like the styling or image)
Interested to hear from owners of the above and what daily- ing them is like. I do mostly small trips so not overly fussed about mpg (Golf isnt great here anyway lol). Or if anyone else has gone from Golf R to something else...
Cheers
Scott

I'll buy the Golf when it goes
B9 S4 Avant at 23 is going to be a more basic or higher mileage car - really proper ones are a bit ahead of this still. B8 RS4 that's also the cheaper end of the market and they're high-maintenance cars at the best of times. Finding either with the level of specification you've got and in good order (combined with low mileage) will be tricky/expensive.
B9 S4 Avant is a very good car mind you, if you think of it as an Audi version of what you already have you won't be far of the mark. Very quick in the real world, quality interior, nice sounding engine, relatively rare.

Although getting on a bit now don't discount the B8 S4, IMHO the RS4 is not worth the extra (cost & maintenance) over an S4 of the same vintage.

If performance is your thing, a simple 'chip' will bring it up to RS4 levels and with a little more work easily exceed it, whilst still being easier/cheaper to run.
I'm biased of course but my S4 is all the car I need and, despite it being 12 years old I have no intention of changing it anytime soon.
