Baby seat for TT
Discussion
Good morning all, i'm after some details of whether you can fit a rear facing child seat in the back of a TT (hard-top).
A good freind of mine has taken delivery of a new TT as a company car for his wife, but has recently found out that they are expecting their first baby. Audi don't list a rear-facing seat as an accessory for the TT, and they don't want baby to go in the front.
Have any other TT drivers found a rear-facing seat that fits well in the rear of a TT?
Any help would be appreciated.

There's just no room in the back seat of the TT for a rear facing child seat. You will probably struggle with a forward facing one, simply because of the lack of room behind the front seats.
One option would be to disable the front passenger airbag and put the baby seat in the front, but then the adult sitting in the back will be bent double...
Hate to say it, but it may be time to change the car

Ouch, that is seriously harsh, a friend of mine lost nearly £20k in 2 years on his, can't believe how much of a hit they take for a Porsche, the dealers are just flooded with them though.
The Boxter S is fully loaded, you get nothing on these as standard, but by the time he had added upgrades to the interior, wheels, sat-nav/phone, paint, audio, the cost was £51k. After finding out about the baby being due, he took it back to the original dealer for a trade-in against a Cayenne V6 and they offered him £40k, shocking!
Children, expensive little things aren't they!
Thanks again for all the feedback

Wow! That makes the £8k I've just lost on my A4 convertible in 7 months seem like pocket money!
On the baby seat front, why not go with the rear-facing baby seat in the front seat (pushed as far back as possible) with the airbag disconnected - isn't there a key enabled switch in the glovebox???? I know the general consensus is to put little nippers in the back seats, but to be honest when they're really young it is very re-assuring having them directly next to you in the car... in the worst case of a crash do you really want to have to extract kids from the back seats - or use a passenger door to get them out?
When kids are <6 months, there is a bit of a danger of them coughing up or being sick... when they're next to you in the passenger seat it is easier to assess how much of an issue that is - believe me there's nothing quite as scary as hearing your child seemingly choking and you can't see them...
My wife put our first born in his seat in the front - in an Alfa GTV - no rear seats!!!
The issue there wasn't *where* to put the seat, but how to fit a buggy in the car!
Once the little ones are old enough / big enough to go forward facing, then an ISOFIX seat is a great option - easy to fit and remove from the car, and generally less deep than a normal (seatbelt) fixed seat.
Anyway - hope this helps!

Damnit, I would have offered him £26,500 for it! I take it that was the price the garage gave him for it rather than a private sale. I guess these giant engined luxary cars are just too expensive to run second hand
No, it was a private sale - he couldn't get rid of it - the garage he bought his Conti GT from offered even less. £30K depreciation a year is just horrendous.
I'm sticking to VWs and Audis...

Man alive, I'm stunned that he couldn't shift such a stunning car. I'm thinking about getting a big cruiser, but think I'll just stick to the S2000 as it's only losing about 3k a year
The Graco seat that sells as part of most Graco travel systems will fit in the rear of a TT. The optional locking base will not, but you're mainly losing convenience rather than safety. The travel system we have from Graco (can't remember the name & the wife is out with it) is the lightest, most compact (and virtually the cheapest) that they make. The pushchair will fit in the boot.
You won't get a lot else in the car though, which is why my wife swapped out of the TT into an A4 cab - better, but still tight.
Go to Toys'R'Us and try it before buying.

My husband and I own a 2001 TT and are going crazy looking for a rear facing car seat that fits in the back, that's how we found you in this forum
Hopefully you can help. You said you were using the Graco seat without the base. How did that work for you guys? We are thinking of getting the "Snug Ride", is that the same one you had?
Any help would be really appreciated.
Cheers,
D
