Weird - sticking VW hatch release

By no means life threatening (but is sure ruins the aesthetics).
When you use the large VW badge hatch-release on my Mk V Golf, it sticks in the 'depressed' position (presumably it now develops some positive rear downforce?).
Anyone else had this? Did you cure it (my imagination ran out after squirting with WD40)?
