VW Passat Alarm Sensitivity

Chap at work has 52 reg passat that the alarm keeps going off, windows and doors are all closed. Sometime it is fine other times it will go off. Is there a known fault with this car? Can the sensitivity be reduced? Has it got motion sensors in it?

Any help much appreciated.
