I have had my car for 5 years and, and it is starting to cost me a lot of money. I need to ask you guys some questions and hoping somebody will come back with help. First thing is when I come to slow the car down at traffic lights or just generley slowing down it is like I have Kangeroo petrol in my car and I have just had the timing done and the power has gone from the car

Hope somebody can help

Welcome to PH wavey

Have you checked the MAF sensor where the air pipe leads from the air box?

Does the car idle properly?

T'has been a while since I sold My MKII but I remeber these sensors being a PITA.

You just had the timing done and it's been rubbish since then?

I'd take it back then and tell them that since they did the timing it's running poorly. If they are a half decent outfit then they would take another look.

Good, sound's like they buggered up your timing. As for the speedo - have you tried Eurocarparts?

Isn't this a CIS car? Mk II would be from the early or mid 80's. If so get the service manual, they are not at all hard to work on.

Too old my arse. Tell the shop they are fired!

No doubt they mis-timed it. Until you change the cam belt, the timing on these should not change at all.

So, don't change cars, change shops or DIY.

I have seen a similar problem to this on my sons 1985 Gti, the woodruff key had sheared on the bottom pulley and threw the timimg out. Check that out as it took us about 2 weeks to suss that one

Cant offer much help with the juddering but you should be able to pick up some replacement clocks from either ebay or a local scrap yard / breakers.

If your car is a post '88 8v take a look at this http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=3325... Did this to my car and it totally transformed how it ran.driving

With regard to parts get yourself onto the forums either at golfgti.co.uk or clubgti.co.uk. There's always folk breaking cars on there so your bound to find someone close to you.

Good luck

I had the same problem with my MKII Golf. Unfortunately, we never got around to checking the sensors (about the only thing we didn't check) and ended up selling the car as it was becoming a nightmare to drive.

Hope you get it sorted.
