Was just about to go for an overtake today when I accelerated and heard a loud pop sound from the engine bay followed by LOTS of black smoke out of the back. Pulled off the main road and found the pipe going from the bottom of the intercooler into the engine had blown away from the cooler. No problem I thought and slipped it back in making sure the seal was seated properly. Started off again but very juddery under acceleration and still plenty of soot coming out of the back of my GT TDI 150
Can anyone help with suggestions before I take the plunge and go to VW??
Thanks
Mike

You could get a set of silicone hoses. These hold the pressure much better. Get some decent Mikalor clips too.

They have been know to blow off on higher tuned cars, not so much on the standard ones.

I too have a GTi TDi 150 and i too have had the same problems on a few occasions. After the third time i decided to look deeper into the reasons why, took the front of the car off to get a better look and found that the clip system used on these cars is crap, its a clip that has to locate into a groove machined into the metal connecting pipe. Its crap metal and not man enough for the boost on these 150's, all the connecting "machined grooves" had worn on mine. You can fit Jubilee clips to a fashion but its not a good fit and it doesnt look professional either. You need to buy new machined ends for the metal pipes, they are changable. This is the route i went and have had no more trouble since doing it.

Are your pockets deep?

Not really at the moment. Oh well, looks like it's a trip to VW for now then! I'll let you know how I get on...

Just got back from VW, they say the hose is bust so have fitted a new one and clip for £121 inc. They washed and vacuumed the car as well so not too bad.

you could have bought a full set of silicone hoses for that!!

Or are you not a keen DIY-er?

If you put non-VW hoses on they wouldnt last 5 minutes as they dont have the correct fittings

It's done now. Perhaps I could have just bought the hose and fitted it myself but at least it's fitted right first time and my knuckles still have the right amount of skin on them ;o)

Of course they have the right fittings, else they wouldn't fit at all!!

Mine have been on for over a year, so I guess they don't just last 5 minutes.

What car do you have them fitted on?

If its a TDi 150 GTi then i would be interested to see the fitting.

Pictures, perhaps

Only experience of them on a 1.8T, never had a problem with them.

There must be some remapped diesel owners on ukmkivs that have these hoses.

So are the hose fittings the same on a 1.8T as on a GTi TDi 150??
