I guys, I need to change my air-filter on my 1998(S) 2.6 V6 Cabriolet, and I'm considering fitting a K&N product after hearing a lovely sounding Audi 80 2.3 Coupe last week. Which I was told was running a K&N induction kit.

However I don't really know much about Air-filters / induction kits, and don't really want some booming noise that is going to drive me to madness when driving to work down the motorway.

Can anyone tell me just how loud these things are when driving? Or, should I opt for the K&N replacement filter to just drop into my current airbox. Or will this just sound the same as I have currently got?

I'm trying to acheve a nice enhanced sound, without looking or sounding like a Saxo driving chav!

Thanks!

You will be hard pressed to get the noise that the 2.3 produces as its a 5 cylinder and by their very nature they sound superb.

I had a K&N filter fitted to my S2 when I bought the car and it sounded really great but the sound of my diverter valve hissing away everytime I dumped all the air from the turbo became too much so I replaced the K&N with a standard airbox and I have to say that the car is much quieter now but it still has the superb 5 cylinder roar by all accounts. (Friends ringing me to tell me it sounds great from the outside, unfortunately it never sounds as good sitting in the car!).

I have heard of a few people drilling holes in their airbox to get a better sound out of the 2.6, but its not something I would like to do.
