Just spoke to a number of Audi dealers about one of the forecoming RS's with an intention to place a deposit.

My query is that not 2 dealers gave me the same deposit figure requried.

At one particular dealer, which had 2 people on the list already, I could place a £500 deposit which would be returnable if I decided against purchase.
However, I then spoke to another (more local) at which I could be 1st on the list, however, they wanted a £1500 refundable deposit.

I explained to them that I had been told by another Audi dealer that I could place a £500 deposit & if they accepted the same that they could have my money there & then, to which they declined.

Does this make any sense ?

My understanding is that it is entirely up to the dealer if they want a deposit or not.

I put my name down for a R8 and had to give £1500 deposit I came off a few months later due to a medical issue (thankfully not as bad as first thought) and went back on the list later and did not have to put a deposit down.

As I said to them, I am not against putting a deposit down, however, why would I put an additional £1000 on a vehicle which they do not even have a launch date for as yet ?

Totally up to the dealer. If they think they are going to get enough people willing to put down £1500 than £500 then they won't take your £500. Interest is one and a large number of speculators would be put off putting down a larger deposit.

When i first phoned the Audi dealer i wanted to order my S5 from, they said no problem £1500 deposit. Then i found out my good mates company do all their cars through this dealer and it suddenly reduced to £500 and then another £500 on spec. For a car 4-5 months away that was fine.

They also want £500 for an RS5 order to which i only really wanted to put in a LOI as its not even been decided if they are going to do one yet. So im reluctant to do that.

I know this seems odd - but why are they taking 4 - 5 months to get you an S5 when it should be here in September if you ordered one this week?
