I have just taken delivery of a new A4 S-line Special Edition, which has now done 500 miles.

I have noticed a 'groaning' when at very low revs [pulling away etc] and on left lock. There has been some suggestion that this is a problem with the power steering, and the way to cure it is to get the 'return hose' replaced. Others have said that this replacement has been done a number of times but it hasnt worked.

Any thoughts?

I will obviously get it back to the stealers asap but if i can tell them what is wrong it might help!

Cheers guys

Rich.

I understand there is a Modified PS return hose which fixes this problem. It is a well known fault, but only seems to occur on some cars. It was also a problem on the previous (B6) model.

We only get A4 cab owners complaining of that, but everything is the same regarding PAS from cab to tin top, its odd that only some cars do it. We only had one I can remember that wasn't fixed with the modified hose, and I think it had a pump or the pump failed later or something.

If you take the car in and tell them what you think the problem is they wont pay any attention whatsoever. they have follow specific guidelines etc and will give their own opinion. your just better off taking it in and saying my steerings groaning.
