Been to Goodwood and was told by one of the Audi guys that there probably (but not definately) be an RS5. It would be expected early next year as Audi want to dig into the coupe market. It would sport a discrete body kit and the 4.2 engine currently in the RS4, but with two small turbos, giving 450 bhp and 500lb ft of tourque.
Some of you may have seen the reports from one or two car websites, claiming to know that it is coming. But I was a little suprised that I got a strong hint from audi UK that it may be true.
Any of you out there know of anything to confirm of scotch this very interesting rumor?

I was told there will be an RS6, RS3 and possibly and RSTT and Diesel TT before we see an RS5. This was from a guy who brought the first UK S5 to my local dealer from the Factory to run them through the options etc in preparation for customer deliveriesSome of you may have seen the reports from one or two car websites, claiming to know that it is coming. Interesting development. Dealer has just e-mailed and asked me if I want to put a deposit down for an RS5!
Must be confident they will make one. Arn't they?
My local dealer has been taking orders on an RS8. I don't think that means anything to be honest. Dealers just want your money in their bank accounts. I was told when i ordered my S5 that i could put down on an RS5 order. I declinedMust be confident they will make one. Arn't they?
It will be interesting to see how it turns out.
Audi have high hopes for the (B8) A5/S5 and because its a new model, sales should be good so perhaps it does not need an RS variant too early?
The new RS6 will be here soon, the R8 is only just getting going and the B7 RS4 is still the car to beat in its class. Not a bad situation to be in.
I reckon there will be 2 or more RS model on sale in the future because they sell so why sell them sequentially?
My guess is RS8, RS4 then B8 RS4, but then the A3 range needs a bit of something too

A3 has something. Its called R32!
As for RS5, it would fill a hole in the market for Audi, namely the performance coupe, that no other cars in the range do. The R8 is a "supercar" and a 2 seater, the RS6 is a performance GT, the RS4 which is stopping production is a performance family car and the TT is just not man enough or big enough to cut it with the 911, M6, M3's etc. Also, when the M3 comes out it will make the Audi S5 look a watered down cheap alternative, so there is good sense in having an Audi alternative in an RS5.
However, as one of you stated above, I think the chap in the dealership would just like to swell the deposit account.

its good logic if Audi had always competed with BMW model for model. They didn't even do a coupe for over ten years for example. and Audi also see there S models as the competitors for M class models. RS is seen more as the CSL equivalent. As for RS5, it would fill a hole in the market for Audi, namely the performance coupe, that no other cars in the range do. I firmly believe that the RSR8 will never happen. The R8 V10 is the closest it will get.
What is an RS8 meant to be that some of you talk about? Is it an RS version of the A8/S8 so a massive great big uber saloon but with a mega engine or is it an RS version of the R8 ? Even the the name is to confusing for it to be a realistic proposition. But I could imagine they'd do something like an R8RS which would take on things like the Porsche GT2 RSR GT RS GT 3 thingie.

But there isn't any logic to an RS version of the R8. The RS models are supercar versions of their standard cars supposedly though not explicitly as road going racers. The R8 carries the R monika because it is already named after their Racing car so you can't then make a racing series racing 8 can you?Chemical Ali said:
A further development, from the horses mouth (so to speak). Have been told they don't know when but almost certain an RS5 will be made. Probably for middle of next year. They won't announce it yet as they do not want to devalue the base range A5 and pretty damn good S5. Probably take official orders late this year, early next.
As for deposit, £1000. Might try to haggle that one!
