Erm, they are all very different cars...

The two most subtle out of the four are definatly the S6 and S4. They have 4.2 V8's with plenty of poke and they are very understated. The old RS4 is a 2.7 Bi Turbo and as much as I love it (I really do), its abit too much 'in your face' which is not the image I would personally go for.

To be honest, if servicing costs werent a problem and I could afford to run one, an RS6 would win hands down. Failing that I think I would have to toss a coin between an S4 and S6.

What sort of mpg do you get out of your 4.2 V8?

Has it been "interfered with" in any way?

I'm considering one as a replacement for my R32.

They do seem to depreciate fairly quickly. Well, relative to a RS4 anyway!

Just been around Europe again, France, Switzerland, Germany, Italy ect and got around 22mpg. If I drive like a tt for a day, I get around 16mpg.

Iv'e just had my second service at 22,000 for £350.
No it has'nt been chipped. (warranty and all that) John

Well with 25k you will just be in the price range for a rs6 , TBH , i had a 2000 2.7 s4 and found it a bit small for the kids ect . After getting the rs6 last year i love it , fast but with all the space i need . I get 16 ish but the car gets driven very hard all the time .
If you want a rocket ship get the rs6 , if not get the s6 .
If you can cope with less space get a b5 rs4 , top car than can make 600bhp with a few quid .

Owned RS4 and RS6 and I'd go for the RS6 with your budget - just an amazing swiss army knife of a car!

This is exactly which I would choose for the very same reason.

Those RS6 look scary expensive to keep working properly!!

Not with a good warranty and if you pick a good one. Mind you, that said, cosworth engine, murceilago brakes etc don't come cheap... I've just had a £2k bill for cambelt, major service etc but factored that into the price when I bought the car. It's a porsche money car, with turbo performance and family comfort. I would say an S4 isn't and is a better real world choice for more normal money. My wife thinks the RS6 is a bit big and she uses it more than me - hence may well downsize to an S4/M3 now the little one is a bit older and we don't have to lug cots and things around. Superb machine though (best sounding engine this side of a griff).
