Hi - am thinking of a Mk5 Golf GTi or maybe R32. Yet to have a test drive. There are a lot of DSG models on forecourts. EVO mag dislike the DSG on the R32. I was impressed with the same type of thing on a friends M3 CSL and I thought it was fab.
What are peoples views on the Golf version? Are EVO mag wrong?

Not the same but I've got the GT Tdi 180 ps with the auto/tiptronic box and the paddle shift DSG.

I find it useful sometimes, when wanting to avoid any lag when needing instant acceleration, i.e for an overtake but to be honest I rarely find the need for it generally.

Of course you are possibly a faster driver than me so try it out for yourself and see how you like it.

DSG is excellent in my view. The best of it's type that i've used. Better than the bmw SMG. Some always prefer manual, but if you like the paadle shift, then i think DSG is exceptional.

Hi

I have a GTI Edition 30 (230bhp) with DSG. I love the car and love the gearbox. Car is run in now and very rapid. The paddles change the whole driving experience, as does the lightning quick gear changes. I have been lucky enough to drive both SMG and Ferrari F1 gearboxes, the DSG is much better IMHO.

See if you can find a Edition 30 - engine based on new S3.

Got a GTI DSG and love it, drive it in 'auto' mode 95% of the time but the gears are there if you wan to play! Think it's a great system and pretty smooth - i don't know why evo don't really like it - most reviews love it.
