interimttent starting fault with A6

Hi all just popping over from my normal TVR forum.
Can anyone offer advice.
My friend has an AUDI A6 automatic.
It will start fine 99% of the time but occasionally it will not start and will not try to turn over starter.
Seems to me like neutral switch on G/box , has anyone had similar problem.
