A2 fan won't turn off

Any ideas what the problem is? Someone suggested the fan control thermo switch or the fan control module.
Any ideas greatly appreciated. At the moment I've disconnected the yellow lead on the fan control unit but a engine management system fault has come up on the dash, so i'm not going to drive it at present. Best regards, Mark
