Hi guys, I'm looking at buying a 2001 A3 1.8T Quattro, however I'm a little worried at the potential extra spend on fuel.. How much worse is it going to be than my old 1.8T Gti? I think I used to get 200/210-miles to £30 fuel.

Also, the standard alloys look really naff! What alloys look good? I like the Avus S3 ones, Will these fit - what size should they be as I see a few for sale on e-bay? Or will these look naff on a 1.8T?

to be honest, I dont think the 1.8T varies in economy much between the models. 4WD will add weight, and therefore consumption.

From my S3, I get around 35-40mpg on a decent run depending on driving and whether i use A/C or not wink
(I have had it as low as av9MPG, but that was around the Nurburgring hehe )

and mine has the 17" alloys, 225's I think.

Same engine and same basic chassis/body.
Only difference will be the quattro running gear so I'd estimate around 10% worse mpg.

The only thing with the 17" Avus wheels from an S3 is that they will stick out further than you want due to the wheel offset being designed around the S3s wider bodywork.

I take it you currently have the 16" 'competition' wheels?#

Why not try to get 17" 5 spoke star (B6 A4 Sport style) or 17" 9 spoke (B5 RS4 & TT style) design wheels?

They were offered as OEM on your shape car, and will look just right.
